Canal Encroachment and Industrial Discharge Contamination in North Chennai

Canals and waterways in North Chennai have been progressively encroached upon by informal settlements and industrial discharge, severely reducing their water flow capacity and creating significant environmental contamination. Industrial units discharging untreated effluents directly into these water bodies have made rehabilitation difficult. Systematic canal clearance, industrial discharge monitoring, and relocation support for encroachment-affected communities are needed.
